HI, I’M BEANDOODLE

Amel Dockery (b. 2000) is a contemporary artist from Joliet, Illinois. She studied at the American Academy of Art College downtown Chicago. She graduated in the fall of 2023 from the American Academy of Art, with a Bachelors of Fine Arts specializing in watercolor painting.

Amel is currently working as a full time teacher at KIPP Bold City PREP, yet still exploring mediums that allow her work to flow from two-dimensional to three-dimensional. Amel is an artist who is dedicated to capturing the beauty and complexity of Afrocentric and black features through her art. She utilizes vibrant colors and striking compositions to showcase the unique features and rich history of her community. Amel's work also delves into the fascinating world of underwater scenery, where she creates captivating paintings that depict the beauty of marine life and its interaction with human subjects. By blending these two distinct themes, Amel aims to create a powerful visual narrative that brings glee to the viewer. Her art serves as a celebration of culture and a call to embrace the brighter times.

Amel’s work has been shown at the Perspectives: Figuration and Abstraction in Contemporary Black Art, as well as their Color show at Chicago’s very own ARC gallery. She has also been in two fine arts shows in the Bill L. Parks Gallery in Chicago, where she received the President's award in 2023. Since 2018 Amel has participated in local art shows amongst her peers. Amel will continue to work freelance and teach young artists as she later pursues her dream job to own an art studio and gallery space.
